‘Amenoia’ series
As a child, I spent hours immersed in my mother’s photo albums and vintage documentaries; fascinated by the details in each picture, the different crisp and aura the 80’s and 90’s had. I longed to connect with the people captured and to have a glimpse into this past. But there was a silence surrounding the past, making it difficult to grasp fully. Amenoia is a painting series about the nostalgia for a time never known, preserving, reframing and emphasizing the gorgeous, antic exoticism of that remote era.
Sometimes it may just be
missing an aura or iconing figure that embodies the good old days. Pondering the question that perhaps the good old days are actually now and this amenoia feeling is a constant?
